Terrestrial animal source food (TASF) can play a crucial role in meeting the objectives set out by World Health Organization’s global nutrition targets for 2025 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Through an FAO livestock and nutrition consultancy, current knowledge of TASFs was summarized and gaps were identified for future research. Specifically, the nutritional value of TASFs, their health and nutrition impacts throughout the life course, and issues regarding food safety were considered. This assessment provides critical insight into the role of TASFs in improving health and nutrition outcomes globally.
